Corneal Ulcer

The cornea is the clear surface of the eye and is less than 1 mm thick in the horse. It provides the main mechanism of light refraction in the eye. Transparency is allowed because of precisely organized collagen fibrils. When there is disruption to the cornea from trauma or infection, a corneal ulcer results. Infection of the ulcer can result in delayed complicated healing.
