  • Bergamascos are easygoing, balanced, and observant, and tend to bond strongly with their owners. They are patient and tolerant with children, making them excellent family guardians and companions.

  • Betamethasone + gentamicin topical, also known as gentamicin/betamethasone topical (brand names GenOne Otic, Betagen, Vet Beta-gen, Gentacalm), is a combination antibiotic and steroid used to treat superficial skin infections and ear infections. It is labeled for use in cats and dogs to treat infections of the anal glands, ears, and skin. This medication comes in liquid drop solution, spray, and ointment forms. Avoid use in pets with ruptured ear drums.

  • Betaxolol ophthalmic is a topical eye medication prescribed off-label in veterinary medicine to treat glaucoma in dogs, cats, and horses. It comes as a liquid eye drop to be administered on the surface of the eye.

  • Bimatoprost ophthalmic is a topical eye medication prescribed off label to treat high fluid pressure and primary glaucoma in the eyes of dogs. It comes as a liquid eye drop to be administered on the surface of the eye. Bimatoprost ophthalmic is a prostaglandin. Pregnant women may wish to avoid the use of this drug in their households.

  • This handout summarizes the possible reactions a dog may experience when receiving a blood transfusion. Many transfusion reactions occur acutely, within seconds of starting the transfusion up to 48 hours post-transfusion. The clinical signs and treatment protocols both vary based on the type of reaction. Prior to a blood transfusion, your veterinarian may perform tests to help ensure that the donor blood is a good match for your dog.

  • Body condition scoring is an effective objective method of determining if a pet is at a healthy weight. There are 2 scoring systems: one out of 5 and the other out of 9.   • Boerboels are strong and fearless with guardian instincts, but they're also very playful and affectionate toward their owners.

  • Dogs are exposed to botulism by eating raw meat or dead animals containing botulinum toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. Botulism causes ascending paralysis of the nervous system. Clinical signs are reviewed as well as diagnostic tests and treatment. Prognosis is guarded depending on the amount of toxin ingested and the degree of supportive care available. There is no vaccine.

  • Bowel incontinence is the loss of the ability to control bowel movements. There are two broad causes of fecal incontinence: reservoir incontinence and sphincter incontinence. In reservoir incontinence, intestinal disease interferes with the rectum's ability to store normal volumes of feces. In sphincter incontinence, a structural or neurologic lesion prevents the anal sphincter from closing normally. Clinical signs, diagnostic testing, and treatment vary based on the underlying cause.
